These days, a good router is essential. Who doesn’t want fast internet speeds that allow you to enjoy media seamlessly? A good router should be easy to connect, super-fast, and affordable to all.

ASUS is a worldwide company that creates a range of tech products. Their products are generally well-built and act as an affordable solution. In this review, we will be investigating the Asus RT-AC68P Vs RT-AC68R Vs RT-AC68U. With three routers to choose from, which one should you pick?

Continue reading to learn about the differences between these routers and which one is best for your specific needs. This includes diving into the specification of each model. Without further ado, let’s dive in!

ASUS RT-AC68P Vs RT-AC68U Vs RT-AC68R

1. ASUS RT-AC68P

We have a winner! The RT-AC68P is the fastest and the router we like the most out of all three.

If you want one of the fastest WiFi routers on the market, you will love this one. It has dual-band data rates, which reaches 1900 MBPS. In fact, this can allow for speeds that are much faster than other 802.11n routers. Users will also appreciate the dual-core processor, which is able to improve the speed of WiFi, USB, and Ethernet.

Outdated routers can negatively affect the speed of your internet. So if you want a set-up with a super-fast internet connection, this router is a wise choice.

It is fitted with TurboQAM technology, which gives an increased data rate and performance when tested against other 802.11n routers. Those who want a quick Ethernet connection will like the five Gigabit Ethernet ports, which allow for super-fast browsing.

The router comes with two USB 3.0 ports for the fasting data transfer possible. Users can also use the ASUS AiCloud service, which comes as standard.

It allows you to create private cloud servers, which is great for sharing data with your family and friends.

Want to use this router for gaming? Then you will love that it comes NVIDIA GameStream ready, which allows for a great gaming experience with (virtually) no lag. Furthermore, the ASUSWRT dashboard allows you to get the most from the router. You can even prioritize the bandwidth allocated for every task..

The router supports up to 300000 data sessions, which allows for a networking capacity of 20 normal routers combined. Basically, this is the ultimate router for multitasking.

It’s important to be safe in the current internet climate. VPNs are a great way to stay safe and protect your information. Fortunately, this router has an enabled VPN and parental control.

You don’t need to worry about your operating system, as this router supports virtually ALL systems, which includes Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Mac Operating systems. Other positive features include the AiRadar technology, which gives a signal boost to reach a wider range. However, for all of the positives, this router isn’t perfect. We wish that it supported MU-MIMO data streaming.

2. ASUS RT-AC68U

Released two years before the RT-AC68P above, this is a great router, but not quite as fast as the newer version.

The RT-AC68P is a dual-band WiFi router that comes with 802.11ac technology. It comes with TurboQAM, 800 MHz Dual-core CPU and is able to deliver a 1900 MBPS data range.

A feature we love is the multitasking facility, which allows for separate lanes for both WiFi and USB data. This helps to decrease any reduction in speed.

However, this is an older router than the first router we recommend in this guide. As such, you can expect this router to be a little bit slower in performance. In fact, the RT-AC68P is much faster as it has a more efficient processor.

Unlike the RT-AC68P featured above, this router only comes with two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port.

Even though this isn’t the fastest router, this does provide some benefits. Less performance means less power is needed. This can result in less glitch, which is why this is seen as the basic version of the P68.

It is easy to stream HD with this router thanks to the four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. Essentially, it allows you to hardwire multiple devices to a network.

The ON/OFF LED button prevents any unwanted blinking lights. Oh, and those who are concerned with safety with appreciate the parental control settings.

Users will also appreciate a range of cool features, with a special mention to the AiCloud, AiRadar, and NVIDIA GameStream Ready.

The only real downside of this router is that you do not get a preconfigured network configuration. As such, first time users may have some slight trouble setting up the network. So, who wins between the ASUS RT-AC68P Vs RT-AC68U, we have to say the RT-AC68P.

3. ASUS RT-AC68R

The RT-AC68R is the same as the RT-AC68U above. In fact, the U stands for Universal, while the R stands for Reseller.

Here’s something you may not know – the AC68U and AC68R are the same router! In fact, when comparing the different between RT-AC68U Vs RT-AC68R, the single difference between these two routers in the name.  U represents “Universal”, whereas R represents “Reseller”.

The RT-AC68R can only be sold by reselling retailers, like Best Buy. As both routers are the same, it is a good idea to just buy the cheapest one on offer at the same.

Verdict

As you can see, these three routers are very similar, which makes it hard to pick a winner. With that said, the ASUS RT-AC68P is the fastest and the one we recommend the most.

Both the AC68U and the AC68R have similar features to our winner, but they aren’t as fast. So if you’re looking for a new router, the AC68P would be our choice, although you won’t go wrong with any of these options.
